“FROM METTLE, COMES STEEL”

Origin’s own Ben Dubetsky, a newly minted West Point cadet, knows a thing or two about testing his mettle.  He just finished the legendary “Best Barracks”…a grueling initiation rite of passage for all Plebes (freshmen) at the USMA.  He was tested on everything from military terminology and courtesy, to the nuts and bolts of being a soldier, scholar, follower and leader.  You see, it takes a certain grit and determination to start an application and evaluation process that boasts an extraordinarily high attrition rate.  50,000 plus cadet candidates begin the application process for the coveted appointment, but a paltry average of 4.5%, or about 2,100, earn an acceptance.  The prestige, honor and privilege to gain the education, training, a military officer’s government commission and the leadership skills that produced generals, fortune 500 CEO’s, presidents and world leaders is his reward…that, and a free world class undergraduate and military leadership education worth over $500,000!
Ben started this journey over a year and a half ago.  In April 2019 at a talk I gave to prospective cadet candidates, Ben was the first to approach me after my Q and A.  He excitedly asked for any training and conditioning information and coaching I had to offer. He showed up early and first, trained to his limits…even vomiting at times, and was the last to leave after devouring every bit of information I was willing to teach him. A model student athlete, he gave the same all-out effort in the classroom, on the wrestling mat and on the track.  Kudos Ben!  Continue leading from the front and continued success on your new journey on becoming a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army!
