Kevin Katayama is a strength and conditioning coach with a high-performance pedigree forged through 15 years of competitive fencing and five years of coaching experience. As both an athlete and a coach, Kevin combines elite-level insight with a commitment to helping clients reach their physical peak through evidence-based training methods.

A standout Division I athlete at NJIT, Kevin was a two-time NCAA Championship qualifier in 2022 and 2023. In 2022, he was the only male athlete from NJIT to qualify, earning national recognition for both his performance and dedication. That same year, he placed 23rd in the men’s foil at t

he NCAA Championships, following a 9th place finish at Regionals. In 2023, he returned to Nationals, finishing 20th and capping off a season that included a 75% win rate (60-20) and a 9th place Regional finish.

Throughout his collegiate career, Kevin:

  • Earned two NCAA Championship qualifications (2022, 2023)
  • Helped NJIT secure a gold medal in the foil squad event at the 2022 MACFA Championships
  • Achieved multiple top-10 finishes at NCAA Regionals and led his team to strong MACFA placements
  • Was named a USFCA Honorable Mention and All-Academic Scholar of Distinction

On the national and international stage, Kevin’s highlights include:

  • 5th place at the 2018 Division 1 Summer Nationals
  • 7th place in the Junior event at the 2018 November NAC
  • Champion of the 2018 Junior Nordic Championships
  • Career-high national rankings of 12th in Juniors and 37th in Seniors

Now, Kevin channels his years of elite competition into his coaching, specializing in strength and conditioning for athletes and high-performing individuals. His approach blends sport-specific programming, injury prevention, and performance optimization to help clients train smarter, move better, and reach their full potential.
